I hate running
July 18, 2008
Rx:
Four rounds for time of:
Run 400 meters
50 Squats
Brandx puppy:
Run 400 meters
25 squats
Finished in just below 19 minutes (some flyfisher started talking to me just as I was finishing up so I missed the exact time.) Went real deep on the squats and had to split the last three sets. Running went surprisingly well, even though my knee didn’t like it all that much.
I’ve actually impressed myself three times today. First, I’ve eaten really well for the last two days, but this afternoon I had the wildest cravings for potato chips. I’ve broken down before, but this time I walked right past the crap shelves, 1-0 me. A bit later I had finished trying to rein in the kids and put them and the house to rest, I calculated I’d been at it straight for fourteen hours, surely I deserved a rest? I mean, up and about with a three-year-old all day could be called a decent workout all by itself, right? (It really is!) Still, I suited up and left the house on my bike to find a suitable place to do todays wod. 2-0 me! Now, for the third victory, did I mention I hate running? I actually finished 4×400m without slowing to a walk (or puking) For me this is a huge win, 3-0 and it’s a rout!
Did I ever tell you how much I hate running?
Oh, and PS! Cashew nuts, yum.
080707 – Shoulders felt rather sore after the previous nights workout. Probably a result of the dips and practicing the different lifts, some of which I haven’t done in years. Decided to forgo more upper body action and head out on the bike again (don’t tell Katie!) Left my bike computer at home, but were out for about half-an-hour.
080708 - Still sore. So why should the upper body be sore, and the lower not? Instead of the pull-up ladder that was on the plan, a squat ladder seemed like the perfect way to even the score. Yeah right….
Squat ladder: 22 rounds + 16.
Fairly happy with that. Didn’t even break a sweat until round 15. Sets unbroken until 19, then all hell broke loose:) Rather chuffed that I managed to keep at it for three more rounds. I’d have finished round 23 too, but ran out of time.
Tomorrow I hope my shoulders feel a bit better
Some nutritional tips at the end.

So, the ankle feels ok, no point in resting, right? A busy day today so around 9pm I was really worried there wasn’t going to be a workout at all. Went over to a friend’s mother to help her with a wireless network setup. She smokes in the house, and the air was thick with the vile stuff while I was there. I literally gasped for air when I left…
So when I got home at 9.15 the couch looked mighty inviting. Did I succumb? No! I Put in the work. Not that it was a lot of work, but enough for me right now.
Tabata Squats: 12-14-14-12-12-13-12-14: Didn’t push it, focused on form, and was a bit vary of the ankle. I felt it a bit at the end, but not too bad.
Tabata Pushups: 15-16-11-9-7-6-7-8: This was not good. Felt the ankle a bit, so decided to go for knee pushups. Still couldn’t maintain a decent pace. I put up better numbers than this with regular pushups back in january. Oh well, baseline established.
Summary: There’s a lot more work to be put in.
